About PhotoLib™ Photographs This information applies to PhotoLib™Vol.1, 2 and 3 Sources PhotoLib™ photographs come from a variety of sources such as Stock Photography Agencies Individual Photographers Computer Firms Public Institutions Tourist Organisations PhotoLib™ photos can also be classified as follows: 1. Photographs Copyright Kagema. These images have the keyword KAG. 2. Photographs from The Stock Advantage. These images have the keyword SA 4. Photographs from the PhotoDisc CD Collection. These images have the keyword PDISCx where x (1 to 6) corresponds to the PhotoDisc Volume. 5. Photographs from the PhotosOnDisc Collection. These images have the keyword CPOD and the file name starts with PO. Photographs scanned by Kagema Photos in Category 1, 2 and 3 are almost exclusively on 35mm slide originals. Some medium format originals were first copied to 35mm slides for further processing. The original slides were scanned using Kodak PhotoCD. From the PhotoCD the Base Resolution Image (768 * 512 pixels) was used to prepare the PhotoLib image. Original PhotoCD images contain an electronically created black frame. It is also possible that the scanned image contains part of the plastic slide frame. Therefore we cropped all the images to 730*485 pixels (file size 1 MB). Some of the images may contain more black or undesirable areas. Because of this we cropped some photos even more. Photos with vertical orientation were rotated 90 degrees to appear correctly on screen. To assure an optimally pleasing display of the images on screen we adjusted brightness, contrast, saturation and applied a filter. For a listing of the adjustments made please see the appendix at the end of this document. Finally the images were JPEG compressed using the ThunderStorm compression card. For image manipulation we used PhotoShop 2.0.1 or 2.5.1. The appearance of the image on screen obviously depends on the type of monitor used and the monitor adjustments. You should adjust your monitor to either provide a pleasing display or if you are going to print the images you have to calibrate your monitor according to the instructions of the software you are using. Before using PhotoLib™ images in your application you could further adjust the image with cropping, filters and other image processing. You require an appropriate image processing software for this purpose. The adjustments (cropping, rotation, brightness, contrast, saturation and filter) were only made to the medium resolution images on the PhotoLib™ Volumes CD-ROM and on the PhotoLib Special Theme CDs. When you receive high-resolution images on PhotoLib Portfolio in PhotoCD file format you will receive the unaltered original scanned image. You should adjust these images yourself to your individual need. When ordering on diskette or Portfolio JPEG format you will receive the cropped and rotated (but no other adjustments) image. PhotoDisc Images These images are part of the PhotoDisc CD library. They come from PhotoDisc Volume 1 to 6. The corresponding images on the PhotoLib CD-ROM have been taken from the original high-resolution image on the PhotoDisc and been resampled with PhotoShop 2.0.1 to not exceed 730 pixels in one dimension. The aspect ratio was left unchanged. No other image manipulation was performed. The PhotoDisc images are identified with filenames starting with PD and the PhotoDisc Volume number: PD1_xxx.JPG to PD6_xxx.JPG. Each image has a keyword identifying the PhotoDisc Volume number (PDISC1 to PDISC6). For more information on PhotoDisc images and ordering please read the "How to order PhotoLib™ Photographs". PhotosOnDisc Images These images come from the PhotosOnDisc Collection. The corresponding images on the PhotoLib CD-ROM have been taken from the original high-resolution image on PhotosOnDisc and been resampled with PhotoShop 2.0.1 to not exceed 730 pixels in one dimension. The aspect ratio was left unchanged. No other image manipulation was performed. The PhotosOnDisc images are identified with filenames starting with PO : POv_xxx.JPG. Each image is identified by the keyword CPOD. Appendix 1 Brightness and Contrast Adjustments The PhotoLib™Images scanned with Kodak PhotoCD are stored with numerical filenames.
